Drawing: Lying down, looking to side

This is a study of body posture and gaze.

One challenge with this drawing was getting the face down.  When someone is lying down, their face naturally distorts, a LOT… just like when talking, chewing, gesturing, or practically any picture taken of me.  It is hard to draw this, because your mind keeps telling you the ‘symbols’ of the parts are wrong and not lining up to be a correct ‘face’… the eyes dont line up because one brow is smooshed, the nose points slightly upwards, the jaw is slightly cocked.  It really reminds me that we all see things in ‘parts’, just symbols of objects that our mind convinces us are all parts of a thing.

Anyways, I think it turned out just fine:
