Drawing: Standing pose

A study of pose and body form.

I’ve really been going back and looking at R.Crumb et al.  lately and man, talk about detail in the right places.

Not that I’m trying to emulate exactly what he’s doing.  Obviously I’m quite a bit looser and don’t ink my stuff. And the body type I tend to draw is quite different, but what I really like about Crumb’s work, and a lot of what is considered ‘lowbrow’ is this emphasis on the ’round’ in some way. Similar to how engravers worked shapes back in the day, but with careful movement of the pencil in the right direction creates the illusion of this rounded shape.  The shapes really pop with the brain, almost meaty, and very sexy.
